The Global Network Initiative (GNI) is pleased to announce that L’École Supérieure de Journalisme, des Métiers de l’Internet et de la Communication (E-jicom) has joined GNI’s Academic constituency as member.
“We are thrilled to have E-jicom join GNI,” said GNI’s Executive Director Jason Pielemeier. “E-jicom’s focus on improving journalism, enhancing digital literacy, and supporting media research align well with GNI’s mission, and their perch as a leading academic institution in Francophone Africa will help expand our understanding of and reach in that critical part of the world.”
E-jicom was founded in 2011 in Dakar, Senegal, and is a leading pan-African higher education and training institution. Since its inception, E-jicom has trained numerous generations of journalists and communication professionals, contributing significantly to the enhancement of technical and professional skills in these fields. The institute incorporates modules related to the Internet, digital technologies, and new media into its curriculum by developing programs focused on the digital landscape: (internet governance; the rise of social media and its implications; online journalism; cyber-law; etc.). Based on the growing importance of digital technologies E-jicom also launched a Laboratoire du Numérique et des Nouveaux Médias, a research laboratory focusing on the digital revolution and the new media.
“We are excited to join such a vast and dynamic network, which we believe will bring tremendous value to our institution—particularly to our Digital and New Media Lab. We look forward to making a humble yet meaningful contribution to the collective efforts. The E-jicom team is committed to expanding GNI’s footprint into new territories, especially in Francophone Africa.” Hamadou Tidiane Sy, General Director of E-jicom
